Hard as Nails!

The farrier arrived at 7am today and Kicks now has shoes on again.
She was good with the front feet but copped a bit of an attitude when he got to the hindfeet. Not too awful, but a pain for him nevertheless.
Martin, my dentist, arrived about 11ish and did three horses for me, Kicks first.
He removed wolf-teeth, floated the molars and sorted the bitseat for her, struggling somewhat with the wolf-teeth, which were quite large, well rooted, and quite difficult to budge.
Through all this, which is a relatively bloody, and lets face it probably bloody painful exercise she stood calmly, not too upset by it at all, and even he was surprised by how well she took it.
I'm rather pleased as the ability to tolerate and cope with a bit of discomfort is probably a fairly desirable trait in a racehorse.

  1. Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Yuk! Holy shit! Made me squirm just reading about it, lol. But I'm sure my wee girl will be better for enduring a bit of pain; in the long run.... Still YUK though :) Hay - By the way, what the hell are Wolf teeth & what is a bloody bitseat? I do however understand what "well rooted" means.... takes me back a few years though :)
Awesome feedback all the same, great effort! THANKS

  2. Yikes! TMI...LOL

Wolf teeth are little canine-type teeth that sit between the actual canines and the molars in the upper jaw. More or less where the bit should be, which is why they get removed. They are not always present.
The bit seat is just a slight rounding of the first molar to prevent the inner cheek or lips being squished against a sharp tooth edge when pressure is put on the bit.
