Kicks For Fun, Bucks For...?

I think I may have found the reason for her name, and/or bargain basement price!

The revolting little madam decided yesterday that work was not really high on her to do list for the day and was rather reluctant to go out at all.
I really had to chase her out on the beach, and she made her displeasure with this abundantly and increasingly clear by progressing from small lifts of her arse initially, to full blown bucks and kicks by the time we were on the return trip.
I was initially a smidgeon amused, but told her off anyway, and by the time she managed to get enough of a kick in to catch her off hind on the dust sheet I was far from it.
I roared at her repeatedly, and totally ignored her when we came in.
She was rather confused and put out with the lack of after-work attention. She had not worked up any kind of sweat so she got no rub or wash down, no carrots, no praise, and was looking desperately for her head scratch, but I simply kept pushing her nose away firmly, sending her away, told her I was disgusted with her behaviour, and dumped her straight back in a yard with no further interaction.
I didn't have the hopples on as we were jogging, but I'll stick to hopples on and will also tie her tail for a while and see if that helps.
While like most women I am not necessarily that thrilled with my appearance, I'm not that keen on having her adjust my face with a steel shod hoof

  1. Ha Ha Ha.....When you retire you should really take up writing, you really do have a good descriptive way of describing certain events. Very funny :) Bad little horsey.... Naughty little bitch..... But your blog has put a definite smile on my face. Perhaps the wee tart was just having a "typical female - BAD DAY" - Happens about 25 out of 31 days in my house. Good luck with Biki tonight. Not a flash field, so if she's anywhere near fit, and decides to trot, she could be in it ah?

  2. You do realise that 90% of "typical female - BAD DAY"s can be attributed to PMS - Putting up with Mens Shit?...lol
I'm sure it won't take her long to work out that in fact, I am the biggest bitch around here. Some of them take longer than others to realise that I am the Alpha mare on the property, but most of them work it out, and she seems reasonably clever.

Special Delivery and Raydon are both rather nice trotters IMO, wouldn't throw them out of my paddock that's for sure.
Hopefully Biki is there or thereabouts. It's been up and down with her. I have been a little troubled to see that her weight-gain has plateaued, but then had 2 people try to tell me that she has grown!?
I thought they were both bloody mad as by rights a 6 year old should not gain in height, or at least very rarely. The occasional very large heavy draught horse, or youngster that has been quite malnourished in the longterm will still have the growth plates open at 6, but it's certainly not the norm.
I decided the day before yesterday to actually measure her, I had done so on arrival, so was stunned to see that she is now bloody close to 16hh!
That is just over an inch in extra height since the 24th of November. I've never seen anything like it, and my vet tells me I'm unlikely to again.
I'm less worried about the weight gain plateau in this context though, as I have been feeding her enough for 2 horses to allow for work and weight gain, but it turns out it isn't enough for work, weight gain AND growth.
She has also had the back man realign both hips and her neck. Poor darling really was a hell of a mess, but we are definitely making progress.
