No updates recenty due to internet "issues", and being rather busy.
We have zero broadband availability, and our line quality is so appalling that dial up is somewhat problematic at times too.
The fact that bloody Telescum still hasn't sorted the bodgy bloody arrangement at the end of our driveway, servicing several neighbours also, doesn't help much. Now it is raining I feel sure we'll have problems again almost immediately as water gets into their dodgy wiring.
Kicks is a rather determined little witch, and has proved herself fully capable of bucking even with the hopples on and her tail tied. As a consequence I will be popping an overcheck with chinrest on. I'll leave it reasonably low, but make it just short enough that she encounters it when lowering her head to buck.
I sucked it up the other morning and got brave enough to give her a good switch with the whip each time she bucked, and she quit completely at about 2 miles in.
Must have copped the whip 5 or so times in the first mile, twice in the second, and not at all on the way home.
I was a little hesitant to wrap the whip around the arse of a horse I was sitting behind that was already taking potshots, but it was moderately effective, and I still have my head, so it can't be all bad ;)

Yes, young Kicks sounds like she's being a wee tart; again.... But I guess - still trying to find her way in life, it'll all be learning experience for her. A few smacks on the arse never did anyone any harm, lol. Overcheck, definatly a good idea. On that note, did I spot an undercheck on Biki yesterday? She is a bit of a head scratcher. As you know we couldn't get her away without both an over & undercheck, but she HATED it! What happened to Poppy? Trotted the whole way, but didn't run on?
ReplyDeleteJunior driver was a lot less aggressive in his drive than Peter usually is but will be told to drive her more positively tomoorow.
ReplyDeleteI'll not put the overcheck on Biki, totally unnecessary, but we tried a standing martingale, as she evades the bit by cucking her head high.
She does indeed hate it however, and we've switched her to a running martingale for tomorrow.
By the looks of things you'll end up having a lazy day on Sunday..... Did Biki & Volare cop suspensions? It looked like Volare got away alright, and then got checked by Biki, resulting in both galloping. The buggers! Anyway - Has Kicks been up to any antics, or has she got the message? Hows her fitness coming along? Hopefully she's only 4-5 weeks away from looking at qualifying, with maybe some tracktime prior?
